AIADMK starts hunger strike

Members of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) started a hunger strike here on Monday, demanding the arrest of former Telecom Minister A Raja for his alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.

With Tamil Nadu elections just a few months away, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa seems to have made the 2G scam into her weapon of choice against rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

The hunger-strike comes right in Raja's neighbourhood, Perambalur -- a DMK stronghold, as Jayalalithaa pulled up the party for diverting attention from the 2G scam.

A Raja was forced to resign last month after being accused of masterminding a mammoth spectrum allocation scam by the government's auditor which purportedly caused a loss worth Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the national exchequer.
