Tight security in place for PM's visit to Chennai city

Chennai: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's two-day visit to the city on January 2 and 3, 2011.

Chennai City Police Commissioner T Rajendran told reporters here adequate number of police personnel were deployed for security purposes. Security checks have also been intensified across the city, he added.

Dr Singh would arrive from New Delhi on the evening of January 2.

After an overnight stay at the Raj Bhavan, he would inaugurate the 98th Indian Science Congress at SRM University at suburban Kattankulathur at 1000 hrs on January 3.

He would then return to the city and inaugurate the Adyar Park at around 1130 hrs, before leaving for New Delhi.
