Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi will not go the way of Praja Rajyam Party and merge with the Congress party, even if the Centre grants statehood to the Telangana region.
This was made clear by TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao on Monday. He said the TRS is not a “cinema party” (Party of film stars) to take such a silly decision. “It will continue to fight for the rights of the people of Telangana, even after the formation of Telangana state. It will be like a watch dog in the new state as well,” he said.
KCR was referring to the statement of senior Congress leader K Kesava Rao that the TRS too would merge with the Congress just as the PRP did. Even Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki made a representation to the high command to make efforts to get the TRS merged with the Congress by granting separate Telangana. That will strengthen the party in both the regions, he said.
Scoffing at the predictions of Congress Core Committee member K Kesava Rao that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi will merge with the Congress party on the lines of Praja Rajyam Party, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday said that the words were 'meaningless and without substance'.
Interestingly, KCR said a couple of months ago that he was ready to dissolve the TRS and merge it with Congress if the demand for a separate state was fulfilled. He made the statement at a meeting of Telangana Group-1 officers in December, in response to Malkajgiri MP Sarve Satyanarayana's suggestion that KCR should join Congress and lead his movement for Telangana.
KCR then said the TRS was not a regular political party, but was formed for a cause. “Once that cause is achieved, there is no need for the party to exist,” he said.
"There is no question of merging TRS into the Congress," he said and added TRS will become a role model for other parties.
KCR even said that he was ready to wash the feet of Congress party president Sonia Gandhi if she granted Telangana state.

"If by-elections for the state were to be held, the TRS would sweep Telangana and the party of Former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy will get clear majority in the Seemandhra region," KCR predicted.
