Bangalore: Ten officials, including four from Indian Air Force, were injured in a blast at the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) during a pre 'lightning test'.
Incident occurred yesterday evening when a 'preliminary' test was being conducted at the lab's Lightning Test Facility (LTF).
At the time of the accident an expert group had assembled to study a controlled test ignition, before the actual test. There was a blinding flash of light when the power was turned on. Glass window panes and doors were shattered, with splinters flying in all directions and injuring ten people.
One of the injured was a CABS scientist Shankar Bhat, whose left eye suffered damage. Among the injured, six were civilians and treated at Manipal Hospital and discharged later while the four IAF officers were shifted to the Command Hospital. Two of the four IAF Officers were undergoing treatment.
CABS sources, claimed that it was a small accident and no major damage was reported.
