Mysore: Voters of Konanur village in Arkalgud taluk of Hassan district created a record of sorts on Friday by avoiding voting in the ZP and TP elections in protest against the government's failure to concede to their demand to upgrade their village from gram panchayat to a town municipality level.
As per records, this is the first time that villagers in such a big number have totally boycotted the elections. The village has more than 10,000 voters. For the second time in a row, election officials returned with empty boxes (EMVs). Even during the GP elections, zero voting was recorded in all the 22 GP seats.
