Hyderabad: Move over superstition. Here comes customized birth dates. Or precisely, 1.1.11. Or — for that matter — 10.10.10. High demand for attractive birth-dates for their kids.
1.1.11, an increasing number of expecting mothers in the city are either advancing or delaying deliveries to keep a date with this date. Couples have been flooding hospitals with requests for delivery on this unique arrangement of day, month and year, unmindful that obstructing the biological time and hour of the baby's birth could lead to severe health complications. It's been a trend with would-be parents to have their newborn's date of birth reading 9.9.09 or 10.10.10 and now 1.1.11.
Doctors have counselled many couples against such deliveries. "I don't think it has anything to do with astrology. I don't understand why people are making such weird requests. We had 10 requests but we counselled seven couples against it as it could lead to safety issues as far as the baby is concerned. Advancing or delaying delivery by a day or two is okay, but not weeks," said Dr Praveen.
