Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), the green field airport built on PPP mode, has emerged as the fastest growing airport in the country clocking a 23 per cent annual passenger growth.
BIAL today came out wth its annual air traffic figures of 2010 and an insight into the 2011 forecast.
With revived business travel and increased leisure travel, the upward growth trend continued from July last year with annual figures touching 11.24 million.
The passenger traffic in the last quarter was 3.06 million and on December 17, the airport handled 38,134 passengers. These figures were the highest ever reported since airport opening in May 2008, a BIAL release said.
In 2010 from January to December the passenger traffic was at 11.24 million. Cargo handling was at 2.1 lakh metric tons, a growth of 33 per cent.
Air traffic movements was at 1,10,437 passengers per day, an 8.2 per cent growth. The airport had a daily domestic connections to 30 destinations and international connections of 19 cities. The current daily air traffic movements was at 312 aircraft.
