AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Friday called upon partymen to bury their differences and work in unison to win the Assembly elections, saying that people had made up their mind to vote for the party.
Addressing partymen near the mausoleum of party founder M.G. Ramachandran on the occasion of his death anniversary, she asked them to take a pledge to defeat the “family rule” and make Tamil Nadu a number one State by restoring law and order.

Starting his acting career in the Original Boys drama company, MGR later entered tinsel town and became a household name with his family entertainers.
Portrayed in his films as saviour of the underprivileged which endeared him to the masses, MGR was the numero uno of Tamil cinema before he took the plunge into politics in 1953 joining the DMK.
He floated AIADMK in 1972 after his expulsion when he sought publicising the DMK’s financial details, angering the leadership. He became the Chief Minister in 1977, trouncing the Karunanidhi-led DMK and continued in the post till he he died following cardiac arrest in 1987.
Describing the fight between AIADMK and DMK as one between good and evil, she said though the DMK suffered defeat thrice at the hands of MGR and twice at her hands, the “evil force” could not be removed completely from the political scenario of Tamil Nadu. “Let us give a death blow to the enemy this time,” she said and declared that the AIADMK would capture power at the 2011 Assembly elections.

Ms. Jayalalithaa also said that Tamil Nadu had been witnessing unprecedented hike in the price of essential commodities, power cut, smuggling of sand and granites, land grabbing, murders and kidnappings in the last four-and-a-half years of the DMK rule.
