Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M Karunanidhi today launched the free Pongal package, consisting of six essential ingredients for preparing the traditional Pongal sweet delicacy, to be given to all ration card holders in the state.
From today, the bag containing the six essential items was being given as a Pongal gift to all the 1.9 crore card holders in the state through the Public Distribution System(PDS).
The package comprises half- a- kg each of raw rice and jaggery, 100 gm of green Dal, 10 gm of cashew and 5 gm each of cardamom and raisins.
The state government has allotted Rs 90 crore for this purpose.
