Hyderabad: For Ram Gopal Varma's movie 'Rakta Charitra', "Bhanu functioned as a 'coordinator'- He used to show us the locations for the shooting of the film," well-known producer C Kalyan revealed on Thursday.
"I have produced 40 films, I do not need any funding from anyone," he said spewing venom at the journalist who posed the question.
However, CCS officials who are investigating the Suri murder case told 'TOI' that they have solid evidence that there were financial transactions between Bhanu and Kalyan.
"But our current focus is on nabbing Bhanu and that was the reason for summoning Kalyan. We got some useful information in this regard and once we arrest Bhanu the probe will move onto the monetary transactions and assets of Bhanu," a source said.
Kalyan told the cops that he was introduced to Bhanu by a common friend S Ramesh a few years ago.
During the investigation, police also realised that Bhanu owns an apartment in Banjara Hills and some plots in Jubilee Hills.
While talking to the media after the questioning, the producer, who was irritated by the media, picked on two television channels for running stories against him without verifying the facts from him on the land issue at Chitrapuri Colony.
Asked why he was summoned by the CCS police, Kalyan said since he had said on television that he knew Bhanu, they had called him to ask him about this.
To a question from the media about what he thought of Kalyan's cool reply was: "Bhanu chaala manchodanukuntunna (My impression is that Bhanu is a good man)".
"Has it been established that Bhanu is a bad character? Did such a question even arise before Suri was killed?" Kalyan said.
He said since he was in the business of making films, he meets a lot of people and that was how he got to know Bhanu also.
"Not just Bhanu, during the making of 'Rakta Charitra', people of Paritala group also helped us," Kalyan added.
The movie based on faction violence in Anantapur district was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and released in two parts. Kalyan had bought the distribution rights of the Telugu film.
To probing questions being repeatedly asked by the media, the producer said he would organise a 'sensational press meet' soon.
