Hyderabad: Police have imposed traffic restrictions in and around Hussainsagar on New Year's Eve, December 31.
Vehicular traffic will not be allowed on NTR Marg, Necklace Road and Upper Tank Bund from 10 pm to 2 am on December 31 night. Police have advised people to take alternate routes during the restriction period.
Traffic from V V Statue heading towards Necklace Road and NTR Marg will be diverted at V V Statue towards Khairatabad and Raj Bhavan Road, while traffic coming from BRK Bhavan towards NTR Marg will be diverted towards Iqbal Minar, Lakdi-ka-pul and Ayodhya junction.
Traffic from Liberty Junction heading towards Secunderabad will be diverted at MCH Office `Y' Junction towards BRK Bhavan, Telugu Talli, Iqbal Minar, Ravindra Bharathi, Lakdi-ka-pul.
Traffic from Khairatabad market heading towards Necklace Rotary will be diverted at Khairatabad towards Meera Talkies lane. The Mint compound lane adjacent to Secretariat will be closed for general vehicular traffic.
Traffic from Nallagutta railway bridge will not be allowed towards Sanjeevaiah Park and Necklace Road and will be diverted towards Karbala Maidan or Minister Road. Traffic from Secunderabad will be diverted at the Sailing Club towards Kavadiguda X Roads, Lower Tank Bund, Kattamaisamma Temple, Ashok Nagar and RTC X Roads.
The traffic police will undertake extensive checks with breath analysers to curb drunken driving, rash and negligent driving, overspeeding, triple riding and other traffic violations.
At a media briefing, Hyderabad police commissioner A K Khan on Tuesday said New Year celebrations should end by 1 am. "We will keep an eye on celebrations with surveillance cameras. We will also keep tabs on abuse of banned drugs. If we get information about consumption of drugs, we will take immediate action against both users and also organisers," he said.
